VIP Ceramic Research Expedition to China
Led by Josh DeWeese and Tim Stepp
(May 14- June 1, 2010)
Beijing • Xi'an • Fuping • Jingdezhen • Shanghai
At the invitation of the Shanghai Workers’ Center for International Exchange (SWCIE) in Shanghai, Josh DeWeese and Tim Stepp, will lead a VIP networking program for ceramics artists supported by the Chinese Government.
Travel to China to explore a rich world of ceramic art through their historical and contemporary use of indigenous materials and sustainable practices to create a unique voice of expression.
Join a diverse team of geologists, chemists, artists, and educators from the newly created International Wild Clay Research Project (IWCRP) at Montana State University to develop opportunities for artistic exchange.
The mission of the IWCRP is to encourage research in the use of indigenous ceramic materials and sustainable and efficient practices in the ceramic arts.
Our goal is to establish a dialogue with contemporary artists in China who are similarly influenced, and to see how sustainable technologies, new and old, may lead to exciting and creative work using wild clay in the United States.
The program will include visits to the cities of Beijing, Xi’an, Fuping, Jingdezhen, and Shanghai. Build unforgettable memories and valuable alliances while exploring the art and cultural heritage of China.
